Change... Courage... Adaptability... Toolkits... Design Excellence...

These are the topics that will sustain us in these uneven days. Our convention will salute your indomitable spirit and shine a light on some of the stars in our profession—those like Lake|Flato partner Matthew Morris; UT’s Tricia Stuth + Ted Shelton; Danny Wicke from Auburn’s Rural Studio; Merrill Elam; Todd Walker and Barry Yoakum, from archimania. Meet Tennessee’s Hot Young Designers, tour the Tennessee Residence and Conservatory, Middle Tennessee Medical Center and MTSU campus. Visit our exhibitor showcase, connect with old and new friends; and send Mike and Polly Fitts out with a bang as they embark on the rest of their lives. Simply put—three days you cannot miss, regardless of where you are. Our program schedule will be posted within 10 days. Meanwhile, you can reserve your hotel room by contacting Embassy Suites and requesting a room in the AIA block. Embassy Suites Reservations: 615-890-4464.

Share it. Show it. Sell it.

You know what I’m talking about—your other side job: painting, photography, harmonica playing; jewelry, furniture, old fashioned clogging; sculpture, ceramics, turkey calling. Show us what you’re making on the side, then share it with everyone at the state convention and sell it for the benefit of TAPAC. Open to all AIA members and their friends, family or band. Email submissions to ART4AIA@gmail.com by July 20. And note, you don't have to do all three, you can opt to just show, or sell, or share!

Housing

Each suite has a spacious living room, private bedroom and full size bathroom. Complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast is offered each morning, and a Manager’s reception is complimentary during happy hour. Reservations must be made by Tuesday, July 13, 2010. Reservations received after this date will be confirmed on a space available basis at the prevailing rack rate. Call 1-800-EMBASSY or 615-890-4464 to make a reservation and identify you as part of the American Institute of Architects, Tennessee chapter. We have a special group rate of $129 for single or double occupancy; triple is $139; quad is $149.

Associate Member Opportunities We are excited to offer a Q&A with Matthew Morris, FAIA, Lake|Flato. In addition to design and art, he made his chops in mentoring roles. Your ARE training is scattered over a couple of evenings to free up your weekend and we’ll wrap up with a beer benediction at 4:00 on Friday. Our goal is to offer relevant and fun events for you—so give us your feedback on ways to do it better each year.

Dress Business casual is appropriate for all convention events. “Festive” for our design awards gala (that means no tie required). Comfortable shoes for tours.

Think Green Please bring a tote bag to use in exhibit hall. We’ll minimize paper by posting speaker handouts to our web site. To the degree possible in our contracts, we are requesting hotel/convention center utilize green practices.

Cancellation Policy Registrations cancelled after 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 30, will not receive a refund. Prior to July 30, a $50 administrative fee will be charged. Cancellations must be in writing.

Silent Auction TAPAC is the organization that makes contributions to fund re-election efforts of state legislators who are advocates for architects. In recent years, contributions have been literally 50-50%, Republican/Democrat. Our silent auction is one of two annual events to fund TAPAC. Great bargains, fabulous art by architects. You are a double winner—helping a worthy cause and adding a beautiful collectible.
