Becoming a Member

Architect Member (AIA)

Individuals who are licensed to practice architecture in the United states are invited to be a part of the leading organization representing the interests of the profession, The American Institute of Architects (AIA). Learn more

Members who reside in the Middle Tennessee counties of Bedford, Benton, Cannon, Cheatham, Clay, Davidson, Decatur, Dekalb, Dickson, Giles, Henry, Hickman, Houston, Humpreys, Jackson, Lawrence, Lewis, Marshall, Maury, Macon, Montgomery, Overton, Perry, Pickett, Putnam, Robertson, Rutherford, Smith, Sumner, Stewart, Trousdale, Wayne, White, Wilson, and Williamson are invited to join AIA Middle Tennessee as their local AIA Chapter.

One of the advantages of being a licensed architect member of the Institute is the use of the AIA credentials, identifying you as part of the community of architecture. AIA members adhere to AIA Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, and are required to strengthen their knowledge of the profession through continuing education requirements.

AIA New Member Application - US Resident


AIA Member Emeritus

Emeritus denotes an AIA member in good standing for 15 successive years who 1) has attained the age of 70, or 2) has attained the age of 60 and is fully retired from the profession or unable to continue working in the profession. Members' Emeritus receive the same benefits as AIA members but now have emeritus status without the customary membership fees.  Eligible AIA members can visit the AIA national web site to obtain an emeritus member application form.

Associate Member (Assoc. AIA)

Associate AIA membership is open to individuals who meet one of the following criteria:

  • Recent graduate with a degree in architecture, or
  • Currently enrolled in the Intern Development Program (IDP) and working towards licensure, or
  • Currently work under the supervision of an architect or hold a degree in architecture, or
  • Faculty member in a university program in architecture.

AIA Associate Member Application - US Resident


International Associate Architect Member (Int'l Assoc. AIA)

Individuals who have an architecture license or equivalent from a non-U.S. Licensing authority are eligible to join as an Int'l Assoc. AIA.  In addition to the many benefits of joining the AIA, international members residing locally can take advantage of the many networking and educational opportunities offered by AIA Middle Tennessee.

Membership Fees

Both architect and associate members pay  membership dues that combine national, state and local dues. Affiliate Members pay only local dues.  For more information on the dues for your membership level, contact our office at 615-255-3860 or contact Shelia Leggett via email.
